The Structural Frame
STEEL FRAME
The whole frame is erected after the oversite is completed and before any other component is erected or installed. The required accuracy of the frame is dependent on its location and fixing to the oversite slab and column foundations. Tolerances on erected steel work must be confined to +/- 1/16" and must in no circumstances be cumulative.
The steel frame is generally erected by a specialist sub-contractor but the general contractor will normally be held responsible for the acceptance of the steel frame and its accurancy in regard to position, levelling and plumbing.
Concurrently with the erection of the main frame, the short columns supporting the ground floor, where a basement or semi-basement is required, are set in place.
After the frame is erected the general contractor is responsible for
grouting up the holding down bolt pockets.
