A History of 2M & 3M

Mitres and Butt joints in panel.

a) Joint opened up but otherwise sound.

Example

  • Thoroughly clean the surface of area to be restored using Stelmax cleaning fluid.
  • Seal joint with a neat bandage 10mm wide x 3mm high minimum using Stelmax filler paste applied with a caulking gun.

b) PVC bubbled, joint opened up and peeling and steel sheet rusting

.
Example

  • Carefully peel back any defective PVC to a firm straight cut edge.
  • Cut back all corroded metal to a firm edge with a reasonable thickness of metal remaining. Abrade to a clean bright surface and paint edges with Stelmax paint/paste mixture as before described one coat only.
  • Prepare new Plastisol joint formed to shape and drilled at 150mm centres as edges only. Offer joint up to existing panel joint and mark holes and drill panel. Apply a continuous line of low modulus silicone sealing to the back of the new joint, press into position and pop-rivet. Clean off any protruding sealant and finish off with a neat bandage, Stelmax joint as previously described elsewhere. Fill in rivet heads with a neat blob of Stelmax paste.
    See Appendix F
  • Seal all joints within the basic panel including those around the glazing frame with a neat fillet of Stelmax paste, minimum face width 8mm applied with a caulking gun.
