A History of 2M & 3M
The Oxford Method system used aluminium windows produced by Gardiner Alumin Ltd and known as Diploma Warwick double hung windows. Over the years they became poorly maintained, mainly due to lack of information on how to adjust them.
The following extract from the information that accompanied the windows give clear information on the maintenance. |
STAGE 4 Final Adjustments
In order to have the panels properly balanced in any position, the unbalanced weight has to be compensated by friction between the weatherstrip and the panel. As the unbalanced weight is greatest at the uppermost and lowermost position of the panels, the tension of the weatherstrip should diminish gradually towards the centre of the window. See fig.11 for applying tension to weatherstrip and fig.12 for taking tension off.
- The smooth operation and balance of the window is to be checked during the application of tension to the weatherstrip. Continue to apply or take off tension until satisfied with operation and balance of window
- Bumper stops are inserted to prevent the catch on the lower panel from damaging the head of the frame when raised to the uppermost position fig.12
- To provide a tight fit extra tensioning of the weatherstrip for the depth of the bumper stop only is required
- Re-check weatherstrip tension on lower panel in uppermost position and adjust accordingly
- Remove labels and leave window locked
