6M The Continued Development
The Oxford Method building system was suitable for a wide variety of health facilities ranging from small, single storey Health Centres to large, complex, multi-storey District General Hospitals with all their different departments.
It was based on a dimensional framework which created a planning geometry in which to plan a range of patient and support accommodation.
The original 3M version of Oxford Method utilised a set of standard factory-made components which could be combined in many ways to produce any layout or configuration of building.
The evolution from 3M to the 6M version of Oxford Method reflected changing demands for low-maintenance and low-energy buildings together with a return to more traditional building materials.
However, the basic concepts of Oxford Method remained:
- planning geometry
- dimensional co-ordination
- structural grid with clear spans
- full integration of engineering services
- use of standard design data
- quality control.
