As already mentioned, changes were made to replace the Plannja cladding with brick. The following details show the changes that took place to accomodate the brickwork.
To study this detail with that on the plannja cladding, it will be noted that there are many changes.
The steel profile has changed together with the grid formation
Compare the detail with that on the plannja cladding. The dimensions between the window openings has remained the same but the position in the other direction has changed
External Wall
In some cases lintols, which were precast concrete, were bolted to the steel columns rather than bearing on the wall either side of the opening
Plan section of coupled windows
The wall was preferably built to templates for doors & windows so that the preglazed windows and doorsets could later be fitted into preformed openings
Construction of the wall could proceed as soon as adjacent areas of floor have been laid and edge forms removed
The d.p.c. at the base of the wall had to adequately alp the d.p.m. and was not visible above finished floor level, particularly if the wall was not subsequently to be dry-lined (such as the boilerhouse). Stainless steel angles bolted to the face of the precast lintols supported the external leaf of brickwork. Chasing of external walls preceeded any fixing of services so the dust could be cleared away.
