     Cavity Barriers

When the original design for 2M & 3M buildings was developed in the early 1960's it was felt by the designers that as the asbestos tiled suspended ceilings provided 30 minutes fire protection to the structural steel within the roof construction there was no need to provide cavity barriers as required by the Building Regulations. This is clearly not the case and it is recommended that when major refurbishment takes place, including the removal of the asbestos tiled ceiling, that cavity barriers are added to meet current standards.
