Conclusions and recommendations

The installed ceiling system, if imperforate, and fixed properly with adequate support for the framing above, is likely to satisfy the requirements of BS 476: Part 23:1987 for at least 30 minutes. However, our inspection has revealed various shortcomings in the actual ceilings that has been installed as described in section 4 of this report. We also have concerns about the lack of cavity barriers, and the overall design of the barriers that have been installed. Although a close inspection of the partitions and external walls was not made, we have also expressed concerns about their possible performance in fire.
5.2
We therefore recommend that the points raised in section 4 are considered and acted upon as much as is practical. We consider the two most important actions are as follows:
a) adequately seal any gaps or holes in the ceiling, and
b) review the ventilation ductwork and grilles as discussed in section 4
