Replacement Parts 2M/3M

The system of cladding is no longer produced so to preserve the cladding and achieve maximum life, various technical publications have been produced to assist the estates surveyor in dealing with the problem. Some of these recommendations have been reproduced in the manual entitled 'A Different Approach to Build Hospitals'.

Although the panels are no longer available as replacement items, the existing panels are reuseable and can easily be removed and re-used in a similar aperture. The method of removal is by loosening bolts and removing the screed and is shown in the following drawings and photographs.

To make it possible to remove any panel it will require the removal of asbestos ceiling tiles and column casings (if not already removed) and replaced by a non asbestos based material. The first row of tiles adjacent to the panel when removed gives access to the nut that secures the head of the frame and fascia.

Part of the floor screed has to be cut away to expose the nut which aligns the bottom of the panel. It will also be necessary to remove any mortar to gain access to the height adjusting nut. With the top and bottom fixings loosened the bracket assembly between the panels or column on either side can be released by removing the thermal insulation strip and loosening the nut securing the steel channel and gasket.

The panel can then be removed for re-use elsewhere in possibly a door opening or to allow a new access to be formed.
