As has already been shown on the headng on ceilings, partitions were formed by timber framing known as 'ladders' which were fixed to the ceiling and floor screed. The walls were formed of plasterboard with a lightweight core box section.
REPLACEMENT OF PARTITIONS To demolish or reposition partitions has a problem relating to asbestos. The sequence of construction, to complete ceilings and screeds before partitions produced the hazard of drilling asbestos tiles to secure a fixing at ceiling level. Where asbestos ceiling tiles have been removed the tiles above the partition may still be in asbestos. If a redesign is considered for a 2M and 3M Oxford Method Building the removal of asbestos ceiling tiles must be considered together with the relocation or demolition of partitions. To return the floor area of the building to an open area as shown in the photograph below (but with screed), ceilings and column casings would need to be removed and then partitions.
The work proceeds under cover with services fixed in the ceiling voids and ceilings completed. Floors are awaiting concrete screeds and the subsequent phase of partitioning. Note the clean site due to absence of site applied wet trades. |
