THE POSSIBLE BUILDING FOR REFURBISHMENT

If a 2M building, it will have been built for at least 30 years. It will have a toe beam construction that will allow an outer skin to be formed. It will be a single storey and will have an undercroft. At this age asbestos might not have been removed. It would be an ideal time for such work to be carried out. Internal appliances might be past their best and if asbestos is to be removed it would be a time to rewire.
An example of brick cladding has recently been completed at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The lessons learnt from this project can be used for future works.
To illustrate these notes of an ideal building the photographs shown in Examples demonstrate some of the items mentioned.
